After huge public demand and great response from Zanzibar Fashion week, we decided to go to the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro. The most recent edition of Fashion week Zanzibar team brings to you Kilimanjaro Fashion Week Arusha. The collections African-based designers produced for 2014: the haves and the have-nots, juxtaposition between collections brimming with details and those that opted for a more refined approach. This will be a one of its kind show for African designers from Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and rest of Africa. This will give African designers a platform to show and display the work. There will be about 24 designers who will have platform and will be truly African show.
After Zanzibar, Arusha is the next city to take the baton in the relay of fashion shows. Kilimanjaro Fashion Week is the premiere fashion event that combines international style with Eastern hospitality. The division produces the leading fashion events around Tanzania and represents many of the industry’s top designers as well as works with various local and national people, creating a regional and international fashion platform. The event not only provided a good chance to introduce the new trend of the spring/winter/summer fashion season, but also will help to create distinctive features for Tanzania's fashion in the future.
Arusha is a major international diplomatic hub. The city hosts and is regarded as the de facto capital of the East African Community. It is a multicultural city with a majority Tanzanian population of mixed backgrounds, large Arab-Tanzanian and Indian-Tanzanian population, and small White European and white American minority population.
WHY KILIMANJARO FASHION WEEK
The fashion industry is always looking for the next hot talent and you never know where you'll find it. It's a funny industry, where you need to be seen, and the best way for designers' work to be seen is on the runway, wherever it is.
Regional fashion weeks are aspirational. You will always find something very refreshing and honest about them. If the sidebar is that restaurants and hotels get a lot of business, even better.
The theme of the catwalk programme is innovation and talent, when 30 designers will show their new collections. For you fashion designers the exposure and press helps because it gives you an outside opinion that you can point to.
After all, "not all designers are born and bred in New York, Paris and Milan," said Fern Mallis, who's credited with creating New York Fashion Week as we currently know it. After her success there, she helped launch and guide fashion weeks in Sydney, Shanghai, Miami and Cleveland as senior vice president of IMG Fashion in the 2000s. (Source CNN)
